About Us

Our Training Methods

Over the past few years, a wonderful shift has happened and a new breed of trainer has evolved. “Positive First” was coined by Australian trainer Glenn Cooke, of the Canine Evolution Premier Dog Boarding And Training Facilities in Queensland, Sydney. "Positive First" describes trainers who start with and use positive reinforcement (food or play) as the preferred method so long as it remains effective, then adding negative reinforcement (such as leash or e-collar pressure) to create clarity, with correction (punishment) used only when necessary for ignoring known commands. As an industry, “Positive First” trainers have expanded our knowledge base and are making great strides in helping many dogs and people that ‘purely positive’ or ‘balanced' training has failed.

Harley Carsten, the directing manager and lead trainer at Tranquil Tails, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to Anyana Kai. With over a decade in the animal community, she has earned numerous certifications, and worked with some of the world's leading experts:

Harley has trained dogs of all ages, from 8-week-old puppies to grand champion trick dogs, life-saving service dogs, and master hunters. She has extensive hands on experience with difficult breeds such as; Dutch Shepherd, German Shepherd, Border Collie, Pitbull, and Cane Corso. She is also one of the few trainers in the state who is cooperative care certified, ensuring your dog receives the best possible training and care.

Harley has studied under some of the world's leading canine behaviorists and has worked in various kennels, gaining extensive experience with a wide array of canines. Currently, she is pursuing her doctorate to further enhance her ability to help clients achieve their dreams for their dogs.
